Construction to replace the A. Max Brewer Bridge south of the existing span began in May 2009 and is slated to finish in spring 2011.
The contractor in June 2009 was scheduled to shift traffic in both directions on the west end onto the north relief bridge and the strip coming out of the Veterans Memorial Pier. This would allow for demolition of the south relief bridge and other construction activities to proceed.
Crews in mid-June 2009 were set to begin driving bridge test piles.
